A Piece of History
The Playmaker Bongs Iconic Design started in the 1960's in Southeast Asia. A U.S. Soldier in the Vietnam war was introduced to the bamboo bong by several locals. It was a straight bamboo tube with an angled bamboo stem and bowl. A Simple design that provided Extremely Powerful Hits. In Asia, Bongs made out of bamboo hold a lot of cultural significance, predominantly within the rich traditions of the Thai and Vietnamese cultures. The term “bong” itself dates back to the 14th century and comes from the Thai language, meaning tube. After the war, that U.S. soldier returned home to Delaware with a bamboo bong. He and a couple of friends had an idea and began making them out of clear acrylic. They started selling them on the boardwalk at the New Jersey Shores and it was a Hit. Soon after, they were on the shelves of almost every smoke shop across the country, and by the mid 1970’s everybody had one. They named it the Tokemaster and the rest is History. The original Tokemaster is long gone, though It was, and still is, the Quintessential Perfect Bong Design of the century.
